Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ChessTenders ("we"), available at chesstenders.com, collects, uses, and protects your information. We aim to collect only what we need to run the Service.

Information we collect

• Account data: email and authentication details, handled by our authentication provider (Supabase), plus profile data such as your rating, stats, and streaks.
• Activity data: puzzles solved, training results, and other progress you generate while using the Service.
• Connected accounts: if you link a Lichess or Chess.com account, we fetch your public games to provide analysis and training.
• Email preferences: whether you asked for our newsletter, and when you gave or withdrew that consent.
• Usage statistics: first-party, cookie-free counts of visits and activity (pages viewed, time spent on a page while it is open and in use, puzzles attempted, games played, games reviewed), plus the approximate country and whether the device is a phone or a computer. Visitors who are not logged in are identified only by a daily changing hash of their IP address and browser that we cannot reverse; no IP address or cookie is stored, page addresses are recorded without their query strings (apart from campaign tags such as utm_source that tell us which post a visit came from), and raw events are deleted after 13 months. This needs no consent and cannot be linked to you across days. If you log in or sign up, the pages you viewed shortly before on that device the same day count toward your account's activity.
• Google Analytics: anonymous, aggregated usage data, only with your consent (see Cookies below).
• Device-local data: some state (e.g. games in progress, evaluation cache) is stored locally in your browser and not sent to us.

How we use your information

To provide and improve the Service: maintain your account, save your progress, generate analysis, operate leaderboards, and understand how the Service is used. We do not sell your personal data.

Service providers

We rely on trusted providers to operate the Service, including Supabase (authentication and database), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email delivery), and Google Analytics (consent-based usage measurement). These providers process data on our behalf.

Newsletter

We send our newsletter — product updates, new features, and training tips — only to people who asked for it, by saying yes to the question we ask once you have used the site, turning it on in their profile, or signing up at one of our events. It is never a condition of having an account, and we never add you to the list by default. You can withdraw your consent at any time with that same toggle in your profile or the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every newsletter; we keep the dates on which you gave and withdrew it as our record that you did.

Email about your account and the Service itself — confirming your address, resetting your password, account deletion, important changes to these terms — is not marketing and is sent whether or not you take the newsletter.

Cookies and consent

We use essential cookies needed to run the Service, and analytics cookies only after you give consent via our cookie banner. You can decline analytics without losing access to core features.

Data retention and your rights

We keep your data while your account is active. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you can delete your account at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us.
